Basic Ordering Process

Ordering ECMLink is really very simple. But to a completely new user, it can be a little confusing if you don't understand the terminology and process already.

First, there are two primary products: ECMLink V3 and V3Lite. The latter is a subset of the former in terms of functionality, with pricing set accordingly.

The ECMLink V3 package is currently only compatible with the 1990-1995 DSM ECUs. That means the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talons and Plymoth Lasers produced during those years. The 96-99 DSMs can use the 95 EPROM ECU, so ECMLink can be used in those cars as well once an appropriate ECU has been sourced.

The ECMLink V3Lite package is available for the 1990-1995 DSM ECUs as well as the early 1992-1995 EVO1-3 ECUs. Luckily for the EVO1-3 guys, all these ECUs are EPROM ECUs.

You can get information on how these two packages compare to each other off our product comparison page.

The following lists out the other items to consider.

  1. ECU CHECK: Your ECU must be compatible with the ECMLink flash module. That means the ECU must accept an EPROM chip. Some DSM ECUs have an EPROM chip from the factory and some don't. To tell whether your ECU already has an EPROM chip, read through the instructions on our EPROM ID page.
    1. If your ECU is already an EPROM ECU, great! You don't need to do anything else to find a compatible ECU. But you should still check your ECU for possible damage from capacitor leakage. Our ECU Repair page provides pictures of what to look for.
    2. If your ECU is NOT an EPROM model ECU, then you've got a little more work to do. If you have a 90-94 non-EPROM ECU, then you can consider our Non-EPROM conversion service. Keep in mind that our conversion service is only $95 when ordered as part of an ECMLink package purchase. Or you can consider purchasing an EPROM ECU from us or you can try to find one on http://car-part.com.
  2. SOCKET CHECK: Once you have confirmed that your ECU is an EPROM model, you'll need to check that the EPROM is removable. Our Socket ID page contains all the information you need to know about this. Note that if you order an EPROM ECU from us or if you have us do the non-EPROM conversion on your ECU, then socket service is done for you and is included in the price already.
  3. PLACING THE ORDER: At this point, you should know whether you have an EPROM ECU or not and you should know whether you need us to socket that ECU or not. You should be ready to fill out the order form. Be sure to select the socket service option if you intend to send the ECU in for socket work. If you still have questions, go ahead and contact us.
  4. AFTER THE ORDER: After your order is placed, your next step will depend on whether you need to send us your ECU for work or not. If you need us to socket the ECU (or do the non-EPROM conversion on it), then wait for our reply to your order with final instructions. We'll include all the shipping details you need. If you do not need us to socket your ECU, then we will ship your order out as quickly as possible.
