Details: Our diagnostic cables are a custom native USB-based solution with direct connections to the car's diagnostic connector all in a complete molded package. These cables connect to the laptop's USB interface on one end and to the car's OBD1 or OBD2 connector on the other. Internally, the board design has complete opto-isolation between the car and laptop (ensuring no possible damage on either side from the other) and is entirely assembled with surface mount components. So, basically, these are top quality cables; literally the best we think can be built.
2G V2 DSMLink: Please note that these OBD2 cables are NOT compatible with our older V2 2G DSMLink packages. In order to combat counterfeit efforts, our V2 2G DSMLink adapters were custom made with hardware that these cables do NOT have. You can get more information off our counterfeit copies page as well as on our 2G V2 cable page.
OBD2 (1995+) note: We have removed the option to order an OBD2 cable off this page because too many people were ordering them thinking they would serve as a replacement for their lost or stolen 2G V2 cable despite the note above. If you legitimately need an OBD2 USB cable, contact us off line.
1G V2 DSMLink: These cables actually work fine with our older 1G V2 packages and can be used as replacements for lost cables or just as a nicer, native USB version of our older V2 DB9 cables.
Other applications: We get asked every once in a while if these cables will work with other software packages out there. Our answer is "it should, but we have no way to guarantee it". Your best bet would be to contact whoever wrote the package you're looking to use and ask them. If need be, they can get in touch with us and pass along the technical specifications they require and then we can tell them if our cables will work or not.
